In Events: Fundraisers on January 25, 2010 at 11:59 pm

The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Dance among Youth at UVA (SPICMACAY at UVA) is holding an Indian Classical Dance Recital on Saturday, February 13 from 6pm to 7pm.   Join them in the Kaleidoscope Room in Newcomb Hall for this entertaining and informative event for which all donations go to Hoos 4 Haiti.

About the event: Through this lecture-demonstration the artists will describe the various styles of Indian Classical Dance. There will be live performances in the Kuchipudi and Manipuri dance forms set to traditional music that has been composed and recorded for traditional choreography. The music for these performances has been especially recorded in India by their dance teachers or gurus. A slide show will describe these and other Indian dance styles, their similarities and differences. The floor will finally be open for a question and answer session. It will be an opportunity to not only see two distinctly different styles of Indian Classical Dance performed in a close setting, but also interact with the artists to understand the different themes and methods used in Indian Classical Dance.
